I’m so sorry to hear this happened, Randy! Did you start with room temperature ingredients? Was your oven fully pre-heated when you put the popovers in the oven? Did you open the oven at any point? Did you use all of the eggs? The yolks from the eggs are going to make the color. πŸ™

Followed it to the letter. They didn’t rise as high as they should have, the tops got hard, and the inside turned yellowish.

I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed them so much! I just lightly grease the pans. Is it possible maybe a small spot was missed?

Very much enjoy your recipes! Love popovers!! With preserves, or strawberry or honey butter, yummmm…

I use half the recipe to make 6 popovers. My occasional problem is that the popovers sometimes stick to the popover cup/pan. How much butter do you use to grease the pan? (Or is the high temperature up front a deterent to sticking?)

Hi Missy! Popovers are actually expected to shrink and deflate a bit after baking. πŸ™

These were a little odd? I’ve made a bazillion popovers and usually you poke a hole in them once they are out of the oven and they don’t shrink? These shrunk anyway and were soft and eggy? Not crispy at all? Not sure I would make them again.
Definitely a “different” popover recipe

I’m so sorry to hear this happened, Leone! I wonder if something was accidentally mis-measured when you cut all of ingredients in half. πŸ™

This recipe did not work for me. They did not β€œpop” and exterior
was hard. I I followed the recipe, just halved it because I only have one 6 cup popover pan.

Maybe high altitude adjustments were needed.

Hi Teresa! Did they deflate and cool too rapidly? They are mostly egg.

They did pop over but they were dense without a pocket. Followed the baking instructions but they needed to come out early because they were browning too much. It’s like an egg muffin:(

They’re definitely Yorkshire Puds!! More rich as you’ve added butter.
In Yorkshire they eat them with roast beef dinner and gravy and then the next day with sprinkled sugar if any are left over. πŸ™‚

These popovers are so light and airy! they came out of the pans with ease and tasted delicious!
I made half a batch because I have a mini popover pan and the recipe worked perfectly!!

I’m so glad you enjoyed them! If you add melted butter to cold milk it will make it solidify a bit, but as long as they turned out then that’s all that matters! πŸ™‚

I haven’t had popovers since I was a teen! They came out great and I’ll be making them again soon!
One question: When everything was added together, I noticed that maybe the butter (or something else?) was forming like a gel in little bits. Was this due to temperature differences of the ingredients, or did I do something funky? Still came out looking and tasting great though :).

No substitutions and yes oven was fully heated. I was thinking maybe I didn’t beat the eggs long enough.

Hi Angela! Was your oven fully preheated when you put them in? The heat is very important for a good “pop”. Did you make any substitutions?
