I recently made these and the recipe is fairly simple. I would recommend lightly pressing down on pecans or whatever topping you add after the melted chocolate. My pecans fell off after cutting, making a mess and not sticking to the chocolate.

I make this at Christmas and call it Christmas Crack, because you can’t stop eating it. I used a layer of peanuts as the bottom layer instead of saltine crackers, but I’m gong to try your way because it looks so much easier, and just as delicious.

Baking chocolate will work here, just make sure you cut it small enough and uniform to melt easily. 🙂

Hi Cindy! I’m sorry for the confusion! You will want to use salted butter here. 🙂

My grocery offered some finishing salts, I bought 2, Hazelnut and English toffee, I’m trying both on different batches😋

My thinking is that I would pre melt the baking chocolate and pour over the toffee. Thanks!

Hi Jon! What do you mean by regular chocolate chips? Milk chocolate chips will change the flavor a bit. As long as they are a high quality chocolate chip I think they should work just fine. 🙂

Hi Rhonda! Is it humid/rainy where you are? That’s the most likely reason for sticky toffee if it was boiled for the correct amount of time. Also, make sure the toffee comes to a full rolling boil before you begin timing.

Hi Anneke! This is typically good for up to a week at room temperature or up to two weeks in the refrigerator. You will want to make sure to keep it away from humidity. 🙂

I made this exactly to recipe and the base remained sticky/gooey even after refrigeration. I used a timer for boiling and double checked the temp on my oven with a thermometer and it’s bang on. The taste is still good but it’s on the sticky side.

I suspect the margarine was the issue as it’s oil based. 🙁

This year I used a high quality margarine. There was a lot of oil at end like run off from the toffee. What did I do wrong?

I have done it with graham crackers. Others have done it with Ritz crackers. The flavor will be greatly different, but it can be done. 🙂

The baking aisle now has butterfinger chips, salted caramel chips, york peppermint chips, butterscotch chips, hand more. Crushed candy canes looks great on white chocolate (but white chocolate won’t melt in the oven!). Crushed pretzels work well on semi-sweet chocolate. We have fun experimenting with a wide variety of toppings.
