Traditionally, Shepherd’s Pie is made with ground lamb (Shepherd = sheep herder) and when it’s made with ground beef, it’s called Cottage Pie, which is an even cozier name for your Autumn themed dinners. Thought you’d like to know the difference!

I have fond memories of eating shepherd’s pie as a child. It’s such a comfort food and this recipe is very comforting. I followed the recipe exactly. I was concerned that the carrots were too firm, but they cooked more in the oven and were not mushy. The gravy was very flavorful and not goopy but not too thin. The best part was the mashed potato topping. Everyone adds milk, salt, and pepper to mashed potatoes, but adding the parmesan took it to another level. Well done!
