Best way to use up sourdough starter! Baked in 9×13 pan and it turned out perfectly. Also tried baking in a sheet pan with reduced time, for thinner cake layers. Tastes great! Would like to see ways to make other cake recipes using sourdough starter.

It would take some tweaking to get it right so I can't say for sure how to do it. If you do try it I would love to know how it goes. :)

Perfect for my baby’s half birthday cake! I used only a single 9” round pan since i didn’t need that much cake for a toddler and halved the entire recipe. The cake was excellent! The family really enjoyed it! Honestly the runny batter terrified me but I am SO GLAD I trusted the process! 10/10

I love the chocolate cake but there was a Carrot Cake using the sour dough. you have some I never seen before and some I have seen.

Sam, this recipe is incredible! Thank you for sharing it! It is by and away the best cake chocolate cake recipe we’ve ever tried. Do you have a similar recipe for a sourdough vanilla cake , or could you suggest modifications to this recipe to make it “vanilla?” I’d like to try this cake with different types of berries or fruit and this would be the perfect palette!

I haven’t tried this yet but I can’t wait to. I’d love to see more recipes that incorporate sourdough discard. I started making sourdough bread a couple years ago. I use your recipe. I tried a couple others and they weren’t as good as yours. I make your browned butter sourdough chocolate chip cookies too and everyone always raves about them!

This was SO good! I added Cherry pie filling between the two layers with some of the frosting. and then added some cherry pie filling on top for decoration in the center. This recipe is Devine! Thank you!

I’ve tried dozens of recipes on Sam’s blog and all of them are delicious. Most of them I have tried more than once! this recipe is also amazing! The cake is SO moist with such a decadent flavor! I will keep this one for sure! Thank you for yet another keeper!
